Life's a Beach!

It certainly is at Woolacombe with its 2.5 miles of golden sand and clean blue sea. More than a beach in fact. There's plenty to do away from one of North Devon's finest beaches ( which is handy in case the sun goes in) Woolacombe Beach Life covers it all - what's happening (and what happened) places to go, things to do - all to help you plan, enjoy - and report on - a memorable holiday in North Devon - whatever the season.

Surf Film Night

Just round the point at Croyde is a fantastic deckchair film night happening with North Devon's Andrew Cotton (read more on his blog here: http://andrewcottonsurfer.blogspot.com/)

Andrew recently placed 2nd in the North Canyon tow trials in Portugal. During his time there Andrew also surfed alongside Garrett McNamara who managed to ride a crazy 90ft wave easily putting him into the record books.

To see some of the spectacular footage, (and with the chance to win a wetsuit) head on over to Croyde Village Hall on December 15th from 7.40pm. The film night is raising funds for the new Museum of British Surfing, a fantastic venture which will be opening its doors in April 2012 in Braunton,

Testimonials from last Summer's guests...

View from the Communal  Terrace
The apartment at Devon Beach Court is always incredibly popular during the summer months. With miles of golden sand and the unspoilt countryside of North Devon on your doorstep its not surprising!

We've had some great feedback from our guests this summer, so have a read on to see what makes Devon Beach Court such an excellent place to stay.

"The apartment is lovely and had a very comfortable bed…..The flat is decorated really nicely and even given us some ideas for our own home. Thank you for a lovely stay." Mrs B, Staffordshire. August 2011

"Our 4th visit to this apartment and everything was perfect as before including the weather! Thanks for the welcome pack….A lovely apartment in a lovely location.” Mr C, Aylesbury. August 2011

"When we unlocked the door to our new home for the week we were gob smacked!! It felt like a 5 star hotel. We had bought tea towels and washing up liquid etc so to find out they all had been taken care of was lovely. Accommodation is a big part of a holiday and to say the least it made our holiday one of the best. Thank you so much we really didn’t want to leave, we will definitely be back." The S Family. July 2011

If you're already on the lookout for your next summer holiday then have a look at our availability calendar to see what weeks we have free.

Surf's Up!

Whenever you look out across the communal balcony you can always see the surfers braving the waves - whatever the weather!

With so many good waves to catch, North Devon is home to many young surfers who have grown up beside the sea. One of these brilliant young surfers is Tabitha Fox who has been representing England in the Euro Surf Championship at Bundoran, Ireland recently. With teams coming from as a far as afield as Portugal and Morocco, the England team came 4th out of 13 teams beating the Channel Islands, Wales and Ireland.

Tabitha frequently surfs off Combesgate beach which is adjacent to Barriacane beach, which is just below the apartment, so keep your eyes peeled to see some of the best young surfers of the region!

Curry on the Beach

Most people have had a traditional portion of fish and chips beside the seaside but have you ever tried a Sri Lankan curry? Barriacane beach cafĂ© is only a 2 minute walk from Devon Beach Court and offers a host of tasty curries right on the beach. Bring a rug and a bottle of wine, and the handmade curry will be brought over to you wherever you’re sitting on the sand. It’s the perfect evening meal to have whilst watching the sun set behind Lundy island, or the ideal dinner to have after a long surf.

The cafe is open for curry on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, but you can always head down there for drinks and other snacks throughout the week during the summer.

Gearing up for a great summer - only a few weeks in April and May left now, and then Devon Beach Court is booked solid until mid September!

In addition to a whole week of deep (very deep) spring cleaning, we've replaced all the curtains in the apartment and laid new flooring in the hall.

The daffodils are in full bloom, the first primroses are beginning to line the hedgerows and we've been cutting grass now for about 3-weeks.

We're not the only one's readying ourselves for summer. In Woolacombe, the Red Barn has been sprucing itself up with a new mural by a local artist (no doubt he'll be on free pasties for the season),  replacing the mural that has been in place for 14 years.

Artist Conor Wilson says "This is the biggest single picture I have painted and it relied on using different layers of paint to achieve the realistic effect of the wave. I based the painting on the classic surfing image of Gerry Lopez surfing the pipeline in Hawaii in 1973."

We've been busy this week!

Relaxing after a hard day's cleaning the apartment in preparation for our next guests a couple of weeks ago, we decided to pretend to be newly arrived guests and find something to complain about. Not that this, in our experience, is what Devon Beach Court guests tend to do, but it helped us view the apartment objectively in order to improve anything that might trigger even a hint of displeasure.

A couple of weeks later, we've laid some brand new flooring and installed new curtains in the kitchen to replace the blinds. And that was it. It seems we are lucky in that our guests tend to be those that like to take as much care of Devon Beach Court as we do. Thanks!

Anyway, while on the subject of refurbishing, those of you who know Woolacombe will be interested to know that the popular Red Barn has undergone a refurbishment this winter. And that's it. Otherwise, the tide's been in and out a few times since you were all last here, but apart from that it's just the same old lovely Woolacombe.
